To all my fellow lady coffee lovers…do you wake up in the morning with the thought of that cup of ambition? Same same.
Today, I want to share a tip that could change your life. I’m not saying don’t drink coffee (seriously, it’s one of my core values!), but delaying your first cup of coffee in the morning for 90-120 minutes could make a significant difference in your energy levels!
The culprit is a hormone
Now, before you dismiss this idea, let me explain why. Cortisol is a hormone that regulates our body’s stress response, and our cortisol levels are naturally high in the morning. Cortisol is the hormone that wakes us up, and when we drink coffee first thing in the morning, that cortisol production can be disrupted, leading to the body becoming less responsive to the effects of caffeine. So, delaying your first cup of coffee allows your body to do what it’s meant to do naturally: wake you up!
A tip to make it easier
For me, coffee and Jesus go hand in hand first thing in the morning so this was NOT a habit shift I was looking forward to. So I get it if delaying your first cup of coffee sounds like a nightmare, but…I have a trick!
I found that having a non-caffeinated tea or another warm, non-caffeinated beverage in the morning helped me transition to delaying my first cup of coffee. For me, my favorite non-caffeinated tea is Yogi brand Egyptian licorice tea, but you can use whatever you prefer…as long as it’s not caffeinated.
You’re in control!
Delaying your first cup of coffee is a small change that you have complete control over, and it’s completely free. So why not give it a try for a few days and see if you notice a difference? I promise you, if you commit to it, you’ll notice a change in your energy levels, and you’ll be grateful for the extra boost of natural cortisol.
Remember, you have so much power over your lifestyle habits to affect how you age and how you feel from day to day. This is just another tool in your toolbox, so use it to your advantage. You’ve got this! Cheers to more energy!
