85. Why Lemon Water is your Morning Best Friend: 5 Incredible Benefits

As I’m sitting here writing, looking out the window at a sea of sleet and snow with a wind chill of 5 degrees in Louisiana, let me just say, check on your sisters in Louisiana, ya’ll… we are not ok!

Introduction to Your New Bestie

I’m pumped to get to take the next few moments to motivate you to start drinking lemon water. Every. Single. Day. I could write a small book on all its benefits but I’m pulling out some of the ones I think will most appeal to your sense of determination to add the simple things that move the needle on your health with very little effort.

 

This is one of the things I teach my Faith Forward Age Backward clients to help keep their systems in top condition!

In episode #72, I shared my 3 proven tips for maximizing your morning and dominating your day and talked about why lemon water was among my morning rituals. I’ll keep this short and sweet today because it really is quite straightforward.

 

5 benefits of incorporating lemon water into your day…bonus, do this first thing after waking.

  1.   Lemon water can be incredible for your skin by increasing collagen production responsible for maintaining skin elasticity. It also reduces signs of oxidative damage on the skin caused by free radicals. In other words, you’re going to look better and age better  if you consistently drink lemon water. Nuff said. 

 

  1.   It aids in flushing out the liver which can not only prevent liver disease but also be used as a safe and gentle daily detox. Read that last part again. We’re talking pennies a day to help keep your liver healthy!

 

  1.   Due to its high phytonutrient levels it can help prevent cellular oxidation which can lead to rapid aging for all cells, including your skin…so it’s a powerful protector and, again, another beauty agent to have in your tool box.

 

  1.   Help with digestion – Stomach acid responsible for breaking down food declines as we age. The acid in lemons can be a great supplement to our own decreasing acid to help keep things moving. Better digestion means healthier consistency and frequency of bowel movements.

 

  1.   Help prevent kidney stones. If you’ve ever had them you never want them again, and if you’ve never had them you want to prevent them at all costs. Drinking lemon in your morning cup of water can help keep kidneys in peak condition.

Recipe

8-16 ounces of ½ to 1 medium lemon and a pinch of sea salt. Lemon and salt both contain electrolytes making your cells better able to absorb water. With a whole foods diet, we often miss out on these essential electrolytes and end up dehydrated.
